Distribution Utility Meet 2023, Kochi
The Distribution Utility Meet 2023 (DUM 2023) was organised by the India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) at Le Meridien, Kochi, Kerala. It was supported by NITI Aayog, the Central Electricity Authority and Kerala Tourism, and gave utility and technology providers a chance to show their products to a global audience. Rrahul attended at the invitation of Reji Kumar Pillai.
He spoke about assisted reality solutions for the power sector and showed what Vuzix Corporation smart glasses can do. He believes wearable technology only gains acceptance when industry leaders put it on and try it. So key decision-makers from the power and utility sector tried the glasses themselves, on use cases that addressed problems they face today.
KSEB Engineers' Association, Kochi
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) Engineers' Association held a session on the potential of the metaverse for the power sector in Kochi, Kerala. Rrahul spoke at the invitation of ISGF. The audience included Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr E Sreedharan, known as the Metro Man of India, and senior government board leaders.
Rrahul explained how assisted reality and digital twins support the power and energy sector. Assisted reality lets field workers get real-time guidance from experts who may be far away. This matters most when help is needed immediately, and it lowers the risk of errors or accidents. Digital twins enable predictive maintenance at power plants, and planned maintenance reduces the risk of accidents caused by faulty equipment.
Where assisted reality helps utilities
- Access remote expertise
- Detect and resolve issues in real time
- Keep digital records with proof, instead of paperwork
- Lower error rates and resolve faults faster
- Cut unplanned downtime
- Simplify training and upskill semi-skilled workers
