BD Rowa: 3D Configurator & AR for Automated Dispensing Robots

Demodern collaborated with BD Rowa GmbH, a global leader in automation systems, to develop a versatile 3D visualizer for their automated dispensing robots, accessible both on the web and through augmented reality (AR). This WebGL-based product configurator serves as a pivotal digital tool, showcasing the capabilities of five different models of the Rowa automated systems while streamlining the company's sales processes.

The primary aim of the 3D configurator was to offer comprehensive insights into the dispensing robots, detailing their size and functionalities in an intuitive and responsive manner. It was crucial that the tool be user-friendly across various devices, including desktops, mobiles, and tablets, ensuring accessibility to a broad audience.

To facilitate different use cases such as sales presentations and client demonstrations via iPad, the configurator was seamlessly integrated into BD Rowa's corporate website using an iFrame. A user-friendly product slider allows visitors to explore and customize the dispensing robots directly from landing pages or the homepage.

Based on existing CAD data, Demodern created detailed 3D visualizations of the Rowa dispensing robots. Interactive hotspots embedded within the models provide additional information, including text, images, and videos, enhancing the understanding of the robots' functionalities. A 360-degree view inside the machines further allows users to inspect their internal workings closely.

The integration of augmented reality elevates the configurator's immersive experience. Leveraging the Scene-Viewer AR framework ensures compatibility even with older mobile devices, broadening its accessibility. Users can activate the AR mode by scanning a QR code displayed on the desktop version, seamlessly transitioning between WebGL and AR functionalities.

This innovative approach not only enhances user engagement but also positions the BD Rowa 3D product configurator as a forward-thinking sales tool. The use of WebGL and AR not only provides a seamless user experience but also lays the groundwork for future expansions to include additional product lines.
