The Challenge:
HTC VIVE aimed to highlight the significance of eye tracking in VR training and simulation, a feature not offered by competitors at the time. S5D identified forklift training as an ideal use case due to its criticality and relevance for most enterprises. Traditional forklift training methods are often time-consuming, costly, and may pose safety risks to trainees.
The Solution:
S5D and HTC VIVE created an immersive VR forklift simulator, leveraging the Pro Eye headset's eye tracking to enhance safety and efficiency in training. The simulator provides a realistic environment for trainees to learn at their own pace, allowing them to make mistakes without consequences. Eye tracking technology monitors trainees' attention and provides feedback on their performance. This feature records the precise location of trainees' eyes during safety infractions. A third-person replay system visually represents where trainees were looking in relation to their surroundings, helping them understand safety violations.
The simulator incorporates gamification and analytics to score trainees' performance. For instance, failure to check surrounding areas before loading/unloading pallets results in point deductions. This feedback ensures that trainees learn safe forklift operation, enabling companies to monitor individual progress.
Results:
The VR forklift training simulation effectively educated enterprises about VR's diverse applications in training.
